Generation Citizen (GC) works to ensure that every student in the United States receives an effective action civics education which provides them the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in our democracy as active citizens.
GC partners with middle and high schools to provide an in-school action civics course in which teens collaborate with local leaders to fix local problems. GC’s young people take action to transform their communities, while developing literacy skills, local knowledge, and a sense of agency.
Generation Citizen is partnering with the Hestia Fund to deliver high quality in-school action civics programming to 13 Greater Boston Public School classrooms during the 2021-2022 academic year, engaging approximately 300 middle and high school students. With Hestia’s support, young people will be able to participate in an in-school, student-driven action civics experience that promotes long-term civic engagement and builds collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills that students can apply to be effective in their lives, careers, and communities. Additionally, these schools will be poised to sustain quality action civics over the long-term.
This is Hestia’s fourth year funding Generation Citizen. Hestia’s grant of $25,000 will support the Action Civics Program.
