826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally underserved students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life. Among the many free programs that support students both in and out of school, 826 Boston is grateful for the support of the Hestia Fund to expand the 826 Boston Writers’ Room program. Writers’ Rooms are fully staffed programs within Boston public schools, modeled on the university writing center. Using long-term publishing projects, creative extracurricular offerings, and individualized, student-centered approaches, Writers’ Rooms are transforming the way writing is taught in Boston schools.
This is Hestia’s first year funding 826 Boston. Hestia’s grant of $25,000 will support Boston’s first dual-language writers’ room.
